*Yin, Vinyasa, and Hatha are available as a regular or heated class. Heated classes use infrared heaters to improve circulation, increase muscle activation, and facilitate toxin elimination. Temperature may reach approximately 90-100°F. While there are many benefits to hot yoga classes, they are not recommended for some students. Please use caution when deciding to take a hot yoga class and check with your doctor before beginning any fitness activities, including hot yoga classes. Pregnant women will not be permitted to take hot yoga classes at Akasha Yoga Room.
**While all classes are open to all levels, the following guidelines can be used to help you find a class that best matches where you are in your yoga journey.
Sometimes called Yin & Yang Yoga, Yinyasa is a combination of slow-flow, heat-building Vinyasa yoga and deep tissue stretching through Yin Yoga. Expect a 30 minute Vinyasa slow flow, follwed by 20 minutes of carefully selected Yin postures for the ultimate combination of strength and flexibility in one class. Slow down with Hatha yoga. While holding postures for several breaths, this practice provides space to release stress, explore alignment, and balance the body and mind. Connect body and breath as you move through this fast-paced, rhythmic flow. Centered around our monthly theme and peak pose, this class builds strength and improves flexibility with emphasis on linking breath with movement. Expect sun salutations, a themed standing flow, and an in-depth explanation of a peak pose followed by Savasana. The perfect class for bodies newer to yoga, those easing back into their practice after injury, or anyone who just wants to take it slow. This hatha-style class features a slow flow with full explanation of postures and prop usage to support all bodies and ensure ease and comfort during the practice. Open to all levels. Senior Friendly! Turn inward & find stillness. Yin yoga encourages quiet introspection while lengthening the often-overlooked fascia and connective tissue surrounding our muscles. Intended as a complement to other styles of yoga, Yin yoga poses are held for extended periods of time and props are often used regardless of level. The ultimate self-care practice, this class features gentle floor-based poses supported with bolsters, blankets, and blocks. Poses are held for long periods of time to allow your body to surrender into the props, which can relax the muscles, slow down the mind, balance and re-align emotions, bring ease to the breath, and tune into the nervous system's healing capacity. Half yoga and half crystal singing bowl sound bath, get ready for the ultimate rejuvenating experience! Gentle movements open the body and mind to lay back and receive the healing vibrations of the crystal bowls (approximately 30 minutes of movement and 30 minutes of singing bowl meditation). Think meditation's not for you? Think again! Develop your meditation skills and quiet your mind with this specially designed class. Slow and gentle yin yoga postures prepare the body for a guided meditation experience (approximately 30 minutes of movement and 25 minutes of guided meditation). Get the best of both worlds as the breath work and deep stretching of yoga meet the muscle-sculpting and toning power of Pilates in this fusion class. Combining somatic healing techniques like bouncing, tapping, and shaking with empowering tribal-fusion movements, this class is designed to help you regulate the nervous system, release stress/trauma, and connect you more deeply to your own divine feminine energy while also uplifting & honoring the collective feminine. Equal parts cardio, strength, and flexibility, Shakti Flow will literally shake you up, helping you to release fear, shame, and negativity, leaving you feeling powerful, feminine, and free.
