While society gears up for various "fresh starts," extreme diets, and new workout routines, the rest of the natural world remains in peaceful hibernation. Nature understands that the heart of winter is a time for rest, so if you've ever found yourself setting a lofty New Year's resolution only to fall short, grant yourself some grace! We weren’t meant to push ourselves, set goals, or achieve greatness during this soft and serene season.

Our theme for January is nidra, or sleep, to honor nature's wisdom. Throughout this month, we'll embrace softness, quietness, safety, and rest while prioritizing opportunities for self-care, nurturing the nervous system, and introspection. Our asana practice will focus on poses promoting healing, restoration, and well-being. It will culminate in an in-depth exploration of balasana, or “child's pose”. By stretching the hips, glutes, and back, balasana is an excellent way to release stress, turn inward, and even enhance sleep!
This month, let your yoga practice challenge the idea that you must set goals to do more and improve. Align yourself with nature and leave resolutions for spring. January is about going inward, allowing yourself to rest and heal, and recognizing that you are enough just as you are.
